SO WHAT IS THE UK PEASANTS REVOLT 2008 ALL ABOUT?

To determine this point we need a little background

First off WHAT is PARLIAMENT? Why is it important to the way I live my life in the UK?

Parliament's roles are:

(i) Examining and challenging the work of the government (scrutiny)

(ii) Debating and passing all laws (legislation)-

(iii)Enabling the government to raise taxes

What is important to understand is that both Parliament and government form the UK laws but are separate institutions!

Two house system- Commons and Lords

The Commons is publicly elected. The party with the largest number of members in the Commons forms the government. The Commons alone is responsible for making decisions on financial Bills, such as proposed new taxe

The House of Lords are appointed by the Queen, a fixed number are elected internally and some Church of England archbishops and bishops sit in the House. The House of Lords is the highest court in the land: the supreme court of appeal and the work is carried out be Law Lords.

What is really important to US is that Parliament examines and challenges the work of the government. The government can publicly respond to explain and justify policies and decisions.

What we are saying is that the Governments of the UK are NOT looking after the INTERESTS of the UK Communites and we would question as to WHY Parliament are not challenging and responding on behalf of the Nation?

This question is not based on conjecture it is based on fact follow this link and try and guess who and which party made the statements and in which year!

Poverty is an issue that permeates right through those statements from 1910 up to present day! Furthermore, the real crime that of the contrast between the extremes of wealth and poverty are also defined in most statements.

So do you hand on heart agree with the following statements?

  1. I believe the UK Governments are doing a great job for our country?
  2. Our Government has never been involved in scandalous deals and/ or corruption?
  3. The UK Government has always considered the long term life quality aspects for our communities?
  4. Young people are the happiest generation ever and enjoy greater prospects?
  5. Our Governments have always taken great pride in ensuring the fundamental needs for the community such as ‘shelter-warmth –food’?
  6. The UK Government has always sought to respect culture and difference in an equitable manner?
  7. I have great faith for our UK Government in light of global change and climatic variance?
  8. I shall reach my old age feeling confident that my life contributions will be rewarded and supported by the UK Government ?
  9. The UK Government demonstrates at all levels true commitment for sustainable development?
  10. I completely trust the UK government?

IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ONE OR MORE OF THOSE STATEMENTS READ ON!!

So WHAT has happened over the past 100 years? In 1959 it was noted that the sick, the disabled and the old have continually seen the value of state benefits and small savings whittled away by rising prices and that this was a great social challenge.  In 1974 the Goernement driver was to protect the weak, the poor, the disabled, to help those least able to help themselves, and to maintain and improve their living standardsand to ensure fairness between one man and another!

However, what we are witnessing in 2008 is a massive rise of those who are homeless and who are having their traditional ways of life challenged by unsustainable policies and action. It is impossible to secure a safe and strong community when the very fundamentals of what preserves community values are being undermined.

The destruction of the cultures that have served over centuries to inform and prompt dynamic value understanding has in these times only created for social fragmentation and mistrust.

Young people have virtually no hope of getting onto the housing ladder. Three and four generations trying to subsist in cramped conditions.   Our elderly citizens terrified that they will be forced out onto the streets because the system to which they have subscribed, and, have paid with a lifetime of hard work is FAILING to support there needs. The travelling communities who epitomize our originality before we became farmers and built great cities are under enormous strain.  F or the past 100 years they have been persecuted and pressurized and their traditional practices stripped of values, although these communities are living in a true sustainable style. [we would like to lay down a challenge for anyone to not appreciate that he/ she originated from a nomadic lifestyle! ]

The reality of climate change and the fact that the Government are still allowing for the building of houses on flood plains even though they know the potential impacts for the future.  There are also many persons who would like to live in a more sustainable manner and to try and revisit our traditional practices; and those who understand how to develop and manage land in way that embraces healthy living and well being.  These individuals are the foundation stones for the development of true sustainable action and sadly due to POOR planning practices, those individuals are not being allowed to develop and share their knowledge with the greater community- the question is WHY?

So what is our Governments and parliament actually doing? This is a question indeed because clearly the communities of the UK are NOT less impoverished and the gap between the rich and poor has become even wider!

The UK Governments have taken money by way of TAXES off the people and it would be interesting to know why our communities are in the same position as 100 years ago – deliberating over the same questions although living in first world country in the 21st Century.

Why has parliament NOT stepped in and held our Governments ACCOUNTABLE for the mismanagement of our forfeit money?  Why have they allowed exuberant wages to be enjoyed by politicians at the expense of the communities?

So the objectives of the Peasants Revolt 2008 is to SHOUT OUT our community concerns and demand that parliament begins to drive the agenda for a SUSTAINABLE GOVERNMENT for the UK by underpinning ACCOUNTABILITY at all counts. In particular we would request that Governments adopt the following objectives:

.

1.Provide Common Solutions to Enable Traditional Sustainable Communities to Coexist alongside Contemporary Communities

2. Foster an Understanding that Nomadic Lifestyles are a Natural Cultural Tradition that embraces the Concept of Sustainable Development and thus should be encouraged

3. Ensure that Ethnic Cleansing Practices of the UK Nomadic Communities Cease Immediately

4. Demand that Transparent Policy be Developed and Implemented Nationally to permit the ‘Enabling Mechanisms Necessary’ for those who seek to Live their Lives embracing Traditional Culture and Those who Wish to Sustain Natural Lifestyle

5. Utilise Innovative Methodologies to Ensure that the Homeless Peoples of the UK are Provided with the Actual Resources necessary to Ensure ‘Quality of Life’ in Line with UK Policy

The UK Peasants Revolt 2008 is organised by individuals and organisations who believe in the concept of sustainable development and who also believe that the UK Government are failing in their duties to act in the interests of the UK communities.

In particular those who are homeless, nomadic, victims of flooding, immigrants and elders who are concerned for their wellbeing in a climate that is unlikely to provide them with the security necessary to ensure their in the long term 'Quality of Life'.

Furthermore it is evident that our young community are finding everyday pressures mounting especially with regards to issues of Global Change and the lack of affordabble housing or accomodation
